New Paper: Explosive range expansion of Mourning Geckos in the Caribbean Region.
In Reptiles and Amphibians I report a new population of Mourning Geckos found on Abaco Island, The Bahamas. Mourning geckos, parthenogenic lizards widespread in the Pacific have recently begun popping up on islands and coastal towns throughout the Caribbean, The Bahamas, and Central America. Most of these populations have been recorded within the last 10 years and new populations are reported with increasing frequency. The ecological impact of Mourning Gecko on native, or even other non-native species, is unknown. However, the shocking pace and broad extent of recent invasions suggest the Mourning Gecko will be found throughout the Caribbean Region before long.
