Ongoing Research: SNAPSHOT USA 2020 Cameras launched!!
Last year Marketa Zimova and I deployed a camera trap array at Kellogg Biological Station in SW Michigan. This was part of SNAPSHOT USA, a nationwide coordinated mammal survey using remotely triggered cameras. The project is lead by Drs. Mike Cove and Roland Kays at the North Carolina State Museum. This year, we’re trying our luck in Central Pennsylvania, just a few miles from State College. We’ve got our 12 cameras out in Rothrock State Forest (with permits). A quick checkup on batteries and SD cards last week showed that our cameras were working well. We pulled one of the cards to see what mammals were showing up after only two weeks. We were rewarded with some great photos of a sturdy black bear, a porcupine, dozens of deer, and a coyote! We can’t wait to pick up the rest in a few weeks!
